Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics Integral Field Spectroscopy of a Tightly Collimated Bipolar Jet from the Herbig

چکیده
We have used the integral field spectrograph OSIRIS and laser guide star adaptive optics at Keck Observatory to obtain high angular resolution (0. 06), moderate spectral resolution (R ≃ 3800) images of the bipolar jet from the Herbig Ae star LkHα 233, seen in near-IR [Fe II] emission at 1.600 & 1.644 μm. This jet is narrow and tightly collimated, with an opening angle of only 9 degrees, and has an average radial velocity of ∼ 100 km s. The jet and counterjet are asymmetric, with the red-shifted jet much clumpier than its counterpart at the angular resolution of our observations. The observed properties are in general similar to jets seen around T Tauri stars, though it has a relatively large mass flux of 1.2± 0.3× 10M⊙ year , near the high end of the observed mass flux range around T Tauri stars. We also spatially resolve an inclined circumstellar disk around LkHα 233, which obscures the star from direct view. By comparison with numerical radiative transfer disk models, we estimate the disk midplane to be inclined i = 65±5 relative to the plane of the sky. Since the star is seen only in scattered light at near-infrared wavelengths, we detect only a small fraction of its intrinsic flux. Because previous estimates of its stellar properties did not account for this, either LkHa 233 must be located closer than the previously believed, or its true luminosity must be greater than previously supposed, consistent with its being a ∼ 4M⊙ star near the stellar birthline. Laser guide star adaptive optics imaging polarimetry of Herbig Ae/Be stars.
We have used laser guide star adaptive optics and a near-infrared dual-channel imaging polarimeter to observe light scattered in the circumstellar environment of Herbig Ae/Be stars on scales of 100 to 300 astronomical units. We revealed a strongly polarized, biconical nebula 10 arc seconds (6000 astronomical units) in diameter around the star LkHalpha 198 and also observed a polarized jet-like ...
متن کاملSimulations of Adaptive Optics with a Laser Guide Star for SINFONI
The SINFONI instrument for ESO’s VLT combines integral field spectroscopy and adaptive optics (AO). We discuss detailed simulations of the adaptive optics module. These simulations are aimed at assessing the AO module performance, specifically for operations with extended sources and a laser guide star. Simulated point spread function (PSF) images will be used to support scientific preparations...

We present early results from an ongoing study of the kinematic structure of star-forming galaxies at redshift z 2Y3 using integral-field spectroscopy of rest-frame optical nebular emission lines in combination with Keck laser guide star adaptive optics (LGSAO). We show kinematic maps of three target galaxies Q1623-BX453, Q0449-BX93, and DSF 2237a-C2 located at redshifts z 1⁄4 2:1820, 2.0067, a...
متن کاملA fast bipolar H2 outflow from IRAS 16342-3814: an old star reliving its youth
Some evolved stars in the pre-planetary nebula phase produce highly-collimated molecular outflows that resemble the accretion-driven jets and outflows from pre-main sequence stars. We show that IRAS 16342-3814 (the Water Fountain Nebula) is such an object and present K-band integral field spectroscopy revealing a fast (> 150 km s) bipolar H2 outflow. The H2 emission is shock excited and may ari...

We present high spatial resolution optical integral field spectroscopy of a collimated Herbig-Haro jet viewed nearly edge-on. Maps of the line emission, velocity centroid, and velocity dispersion were generated for the Hα and [S II] emission features from the inner collimated jet and exciting source region of the HH 34 outflow. The kinematic structure of the jet shows several maxima and minima ...
